Most of my life, I had been jealous of the white girl next to me. I wanted her blue eyes and I wanted her small lips and her long straight hair. It wasn’t until recently that I fell in love with my own features. And I started to notice the way my brown eyes looked like melted chocolate in the sun. And i saw how the biggest lips make the best kissers and how my curls are so much more than curls. They’re a doorway into creativity of yourself. And not everyone gets to experience that. And now, as I leave years of self hate in the past I embrace love for myself and my fellow brothers and sisters.
